Living Legacy

Living Legacy was a community-based photography and videography project that worked with youth (ages 10-14) in a housing project in Knoxville, TN. Through this project, youth learned about photography, videography, and interviewing techniques by collecting oral histories of the Civil Rights Movement from community elders and creating photo essay projects on community change.

Living Legacy provided youth with productive after-school and weekend activities. This program also increased their confidence and self-esteem through service and skill attainment, strengthened their civic attachment and created linkages between themselves and elders in the community. The project was coordinated through a partnership between Mt. Zion Baptist Church and the CPC.
