Mitrou Archaeological Project

Funding Mitrou

Archaeological Projects are very expensive propositions. We are proud that MAP has been able to win prestigious grants at the national level. We sincerely appreciate the crucial support we have received from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and other institutes of higher learning, and we are very grateful to the various generous individuals who have supported our work.

MAP has been awarded national grants by:
The Institute of Aegean Prehistory (INSTAP)
The National Endowment for Humanities
2006-2009 Collaborative Research Grant (No. RZ-50652-06): $150,000 outright.
The Loeb Classical Library Foundation

MAP has also received generous institutional support from:
The 14th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities at Lamia
Colby College
The University of California at Santa Barbara
The University of Evansville
The University of Rhode Island

And especially
The University of Tennessee

MAP is also deeply grateful to the private donors that have done so much to advance our work.

Even with so much institutional and private support, MAP still faces significant fund-raising challenges. Our chief concern at the moment is purchasing the land we wish to excavate. We are currently approaching a variety of institutions and foundations but we would welcome financial support from private individuals as well.

If you are interested in the prehistory of Greece, the coming of the Greeks, the Homeric heroes Patroklos and Lokrian Ajax, or if you simply wish to support the goals that MAP has set, please contact us to arrange a gift:
